Work Crew Special

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to come to Basileia, you might want to consider coming early or staying for an extra week to serve on the Work Crew. Sign up for the week that your chapter is going and choose any of the program tracks. Come up the week before or stay one week after and do the Work Crew Track. The Work Crew Track is very different from the other tracks at Basileia, so you should think about this carefully. Work Crew is demanding and you will put in long hours, but many students are now singing the praises of the Work Crew Track. Work Crew members are required to come a day early or stay one day longer for that particular week. Those who serve on the Work Crew will pay nothing for the week that they serve, and will receive a $200 Scholarship toward the week that they attend with their chapter.

The Work Crew Track runs a bit longer than all of the other tracks at Basileia. You have to come a bit earlier or stay a bit later for that week. This means you may have to travel separately from your chapter. If you're doing 2 weeks, it will likely mean less time between weeks. Check out the schedule below:

The Responsibilities of the Work Crew

Along with using Saranac Village for Basileia comes the requirement of recruiting our own work crew. The Work Crew does meal prep, setup, cooking, serving and cleanup for all meals at Basileia, under the direction of the Food Service Director at Saranac Village. A few members of the Work Crew will serve on the Housekeeping Team. The hours are long and the work is hard.

The Community Experience of Work Crew

Work Crew is demanding and you will put in long hours in the kitchen and dining hall, but it will also be a very rewarding experience. You will have the opportunity to serve and develop strong bonds of friendship with others on the crew, and there will be a prayer and devotional time provided for the crew each day. A number of students have shared that the Work Crew Track was the best InterVarsity event they've ever attended.

The Scholarship Benefit

Those who serve on the Work Crew will pay nothing for the week that they serve, and will receive a $200 Scholarship toward the week that they attend with their chapter. This is a great way to get to Basileia at a minimal cost.

Signing up for Work Crew is a serious commitment. If you register for Work Crew, it is expected that you will serve the week you sign up. The camp and other members of Work Crew are depending on you. Failure to fulfill your commitment increases the work load on other Work Crew members as well as costs Basileia THE FULL AMOUNT per Work Crew member. With the exception of an emergency, if you fail to show up for the week you are registered to do Work Crew, you will be charged the full price of the week you attend and an additional $220 to make up for that loss. If you are able to find a Work Crew replacement, you will not be charged the additional $220.

If you decide to sign-up for Work Crew, we encourage you to come with an attitude of servanthood and expectancy for what God is going to do in and through you at Basileia. The work will be hard in this track, but the reward will also be great!  Basileia would not be possible without the work that you will be doing.  

Here are a few important Bible passages for this whole discipleship experience.

• Matthew 22:37-38 - Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." 
• John 13:34-35 - "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
• Colossians 3:23-24 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your hear, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
• I Thessalonians 5: 16-18 - Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
